the last contemporary imaging class

yaaaaaaaaaaaaay! so this class was really utterly pointless, haha, in a nice way. we had to pick a part of the uni where the buildings looked cool (or something, lol) and recreate the image on cardboard building up layers, cutting things out, etc.

so there's the foto and thats the building i did! hahah, fun

cleaning out the draws....

so i have finally taken all my uni stuff home from first term drawing. these drawings are from 2 different classes, one with doug and one with ros.
doug's class (the better, one, hehe)

(in this exersise, the teacher tried to help us change the way we viewed space.... so thats why the woman is contained in the frame space thingo)

HEADLESS FAT LADY

this stuff is with Ros's class
she taught us different ways to draw i suppose, in a very... uuh, hard to learn sort of way. i can't say she's the best teacher, but i guess some of her methods were cool. i can't remember the terms for these ones, but i think its called like, rubbing back or something.

first one's a dummy, 2nd one's a model and the 3rd one is a stuffed liar bird in a bag!
thats all i got worth showing from my now empty draw!

uggsie portrait

i'm going to do a painting of uggsie, my beeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuutiful baby cat!!!! it is going to be incredibly heartfelt and soooo in lovely! i'm going to use oil paints because we are learning with oil paints at uni and this is the first time i've used them! they're much different to acrylic paints which is what i have always used. but the thing is, i HATE what we're painting!!!! so i figure if i could enjoy painting... with a GOOD (if not wonderfully brilliant and beautiful) subject matter, then what could go wrong! i have the buy the paints first tho, but i bought a little canvas for $2.50 (bargain!!) and ive taken the foto and ive drawn on it, this is it so far.

BEAUTIFUL!!! then the painting shall begin! and i'll keep u posted on that too. i know i have way too many projects going on at the same time, but its good this way, cos when i get sick of one i can go onto another and then go back to the orginial if i get sick of the 2nd!!!! brilliant!

kinda like georgie o'keeffe....!

oh my gosh, i might have even learnt something!

i had to do my assignments on artist Georgia O'Keeffe and i hated it. i think she's a shit-head, but i say that rather ignorantly. when i looked into her artwork and read more about it, i kind of found something of my own in there to like. we had to draw a bone set in class, just a rough sketch, but when i was doing it, i was thinking of georgia o'keeffe's sensitively drawn animal skulls.

so keeping her artwork in mind, this was the "rough sketch", (that wasn't so rough in my opinion) that i came out with.

i know its cut off- but at that point the teacher told me it was lovely and that i really "saw" the bone.... BUT, i had to focus on an area for my shitty painting.... hehehe

this one's for vezza

its her birthday. this is my drawing for her. happy 12th birthday verity!

BORED IN THE LECTURE

as much as i enjoy them, i do get bored.... everyone does at some point and if they tell you otherwise, they are LYING!!!
this is the result of boredom- a drawing of the view infront of me!!! passed the time nicely i feel :)

stenciling!

more uni work here---
for the last 2 weeks in our contemporary imaging class we've been learning about STENCILS and at first i was like, oh great.... but then the teacher showed us books and he meant like grafitti stencils you often see on walls and stuff in the city! especially in melbourne down that street... that really arty one, whats it called sherry? brunswick street?

so anyways, here's a foto of some that i took when i was down that street a year or so back.

so thats the sort of idea of stencilling i guess.
so we need a quick design in class... a one layer stencil and this is what i had to show.

i'll just explain quickly how you do them. it seems pretty obvious... but to me it was kinda hard!!! you basically have ur design, then u grab a peice of that acetate clear plastic paper stuff and your stencil cutter thing (like a stanly knife) and cut the parts out where you want the spray paint to go. then you put the plastic peice of paper down and spray on top of that, lift it up, and there's your results!!!

after this class, we had another, but we had to do a multi-layer design. i did alex playing a guitar. this is what it looked like in the end.

i obviously didn't let the spray paint dry for long enough!!! but im going to buy some spray paint and do some more at home and then hopefully, im gonna do one in town somewhere!! like on a bus shelter or something, hehehe. so im buying spray paint today, BUT EVERYONE MUST NOTE, it has to be matte spray paint, cos gloss paint drips :)

anyway, liked this class!! woo!

money man

everyone is a bit like money man at some point. most people are like money man as soon as they start earning money and they become too tight to spend it, or too dodgy to be reasonable with it, ripping everyone else off. i hate money men!!!!! MECHANICS ARE THE BIGGEST MONEY MEN AROUND, AS WELL AS INSURANCE AGENCIES!!!

more uni work

today i've been working on some uni stuff and i have 3 of these drawings to do, but i thought i'd post these 2 now that i've done them, cos i think i am deserving of a break, hehe.
the top one is a 360 turn of a room, everything i saw in it.
the bottom one is a over view shot, standing from the res balcony and looking over the buildings.

the journey continues...

so this is my latest update. i finished layering the blue, but i thought it looked too solid and my sister agreed that it needed something to break it up. i was always going to break it up, but i didn't know how, whether i just varied the tone of blue, or put an effect on it. i decided to sponge paint it. thats when you get a dry sponge and u dip it in the paint and blot it on. i hadn't done this before, so i guess i learnt throug practice. i probably blotted it on a bit think at first, but yeah, through practise and layering, i became happy with my outcome. after that i blotted the bottom bits of the stool a darker blue. i thought this would just look cooler, you know, create interest and what not. im going to paint more on the legs, like reeds and a sea bed maybe, you know, with sand and coral. i'll keep thinking on that one.
so this is my little work station!!

these are the legs up close.

i'll keep u posted!

ditching one task for another...

story of my life! but this task is a money making thing (HOPEFULLY). so this is my idea. i love mermaids right..... so i thought i could paint a mermaid on a bar stool!!! here's my progress so far.

1. so i got my raw pine stool from the big shed. after looking everywhere i could think of in geelong and asking everyone i thought might knew, it seemed that getting a stool from the big shed was the best option. you know you can get more if you need them, they're made well and they were cheap. it was good because i even managed to bargain with the man for it and got it for cheaper!! woooo!!!

2. i went to bunnings to get paint. so i looked at all the colour cards, you know the ones. and i got this nice blue colour, called water raceway. so i got a sample pot of that. that was pretty cheap too. cheaper then at the art shop, getting several bottles of acrylic paint.
4. BEGIN PAINTING!!!

5. layers!!! so the first layer is done. i'll keep u posted when more progress has been made!!!!!

inspiration

i went to the ocean grove market the other day. it was soooo cool there!!! i really recomend people go. especially people who are interested in like arts and crafts and stuff. there are alot of people there doing their own sing and trying to put themselves out there and they're really talented. there were heaps of cool stalls, and i bought this ring at one.

i love it cos of the little hands. it reminded me of fern gully, the last rainforest. u know that kiddies movie where they chop down the trees? well you know the old lady... magi, she is like the protector of the forest, well at the end of the film she gives Crysta (the main fairy) a seed and puts it in her hands and clamps them together. then she says "help it grow" and the speed sprouts and yep, thats like LIFE growing out of a seed!!! it spreads itself everywhere and it replaces all the destruction and death that human impact on the land. well the new life makes it way up through this twisted old tree and i tried to find a picutre on the net of it, but i can't, but its some really really really good imagery.
so i remembered that picture in my mind when i saw the ring and got this idea of like... the rebirth of life and stuff u know? coming togther and stuff. and i also remembered this picture i collected once.

i really dig this picture too. so i thought, u know, combining all those ideas, i could really come up with something, so ehre's my rough sketch.

i'm gonna do it again, but better obviously. but blogging my processes is a good way to get it down, and into ur head, u know. like a draft. if any of u guys have pictures or ideas that you think would make it even cooler let me know!!! catcha later and i'll post the good copy when its done. cya!

Uni work

Going from highschool to uni is a bit of a difference, but mainly because after your 3 month break you just get used to doing nothing!! and the attitude uni has is good, but sometimes bad. they're a little unclear with what has to be done. but i'll show you my uni stuff so far.
1. well first of all, we do life drawing almost twice a week.

1.using light tone. 5mins 2. came to class a bit late... didn't get to finish it. hehe. 5 mins

3. 20 minute pose. sketching him lying down.

4. group drawing was interesting. we walked around the room and added a little bit to everyone's drawing. whoever added to mine made his bum a bit too big! hehe, but i thought my group one was one of my best. haha. 5. using guide lines to measure whether or not you've got the angle and proportions right.

6.this one was my favourite.
2. our next task after this lesson, was to pick on of our favourites and draw it again but smaller in our sketch book, but this time, following a bone chart to draw it as a skeleton! talk about hard. but what made it harder, was after using charcoal for so long, we could only do it in fine liner and to build up tone we had to cross hatch- but on top of that, it had to be in a fantasy environment. it seemed like alot to do, but once i got into it, i really enjoyed it- loving ink drawings and loving line. i chose my 6th drawing of the man on the chair and came up with this. skeleton man!!! wooohoooo!!!!

highschool related artworks

so yeah, the title pretty much says it all. these are artworks that i've had to do for school. i'm not proud of all of them but u live and learn from your mistakes i guess. here they are.

Paul

john
this was my final outcome for year 12. i kind of let myself down a bit, i was meant to paint all 4 of the beatles with the theme of one of their songs. paul's is "blackbird" and john's is "revolution". i don't really like painting... i let the teacher talk me into it. oh well.

so now you get the size.

this was my year 11 etching i did. i really enjoyed the etching. it was inspired from this exhibition i saw at this daylesford museum, it used to be like a nun's place or osmething... but anyway, this exhibiton was by this artist, i forget her name, but it was all of mandala's, which are hindu kinda drawings. they're within a circle and they represent a journey or a cycle of life.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandala
the method was really complicated, i think i would need an entire entry on explainging that, but basically, u get a metal plate, you scratch a picture in it with this scratching tool thing, then you soak it in this acid which burns away the lines and then u put ink on it and print it, and this is what you come up with!!!

the personal significance of it, the girl is meant to be me over every 4 years. 4 years old, 8 years old, 12, and 16. it represents MY journey.

this was my year 11 outcome. it was a bit of an accident the way this composition came about. you see i was in the target change rooms, and if you've been in there you'd know there's multiple mirrors on different angles, and i accidentally took this foto of myself. i put this effect on it and the teacher said it was great and suggested i painted it. this was when i found out i dont like painting!!! why i did it again in year 12 i dont know.
this was another year 11 peice. a mini assignment. we did a study of a fruit, mine was an apple and then we had to paint it in some way. this was the way i chose. it was inspired by a postcard i had picked up somewhere, but i don't know the artists name anymore because i lost the post card. so yeah, this work isn't entirely honest, i guess you'd call it APPROPRIATION. hehe, the art terms come out.

this was a picture for my graphics folio in year 12. i decided to recreate the illustrations from the little mermaid, so i drew lots of mermaids and this section was from the front cover. i started from scratch- grey lead on regular catridge paper, then texta (special graphics textas), pencils, water colour pencils, and glitter! voi la! i love mermaids!

drawings so far...

these are some drawings that i've done so far for my own satisfaction. i've picked out my best (well i'm not going to show you my bad stuff!!!) except i didn't really know how to sort them or catergorise them cos they're so many... so yeah. they're in no order in particular.

alphonse mucha/and 1950's playboy style inspired. this is done with pen and ink. thats like when you dip a quill type thing into an inkpot, tedius yes... but i enjoyed it. it's harder to use, but the lines i feel have a better quality to them. the ink is better and the lines are thinner and more flowing.

this drawing is also alphonse mucha inspired. check it out- http://images.bestwebbuys.com/muze/books/76/0711225176.jpg. if youve got time look at more of his stuff. its really cool.

music is the language of us all. well sometimes it truely is! sometimes it says what words cannot express. these are cat empire lyrics. i tried to interpret music visually.

music is a great influence. i have a crush on bobby flynn (australian idol contestant, hehe) and he sang "when the war is over" by cold chisel. i had it stuck in my head all day!!! as for the letterboxes... we just have a whole heap of them at the start of our road, thought it'd look cool, haha.

same day- same song STILL stuck in my head. working with ink again, this was cool cos i could change the thickness of the lines depending on the angle and pressure i put on the pen. i could smudge it around too and that helpred create the messy sorta effect i was after.

on the contrary line can be very controlled. i obviously really like john lennon and i really wanted to capture this and capture him. my biggest regret was not doing ink drawings for my majors in year 12, but alas, ive got uni now to major in drawing!!

pop art kidna style. i had an idea surrounding this drawing tho this one was pretty quick during class, hehe. imagine a cramped kitchen with the perspective distorted and taterred cupboards and stuff. i should still do it one day, hehehe. let me know if ur kitchen is cramped and falling apart so i can come in and draw it!!!

this darwing i did after work experience in year 10, i went to the art gallery i thought it'd be good...it wasn't. i stuck stickers on pamphlets for a whole week and didn't even get payed! tho whilst i was sticking stickers on pamphlets all day i got to stare at a copy of picasso's "guernica" and the style kinda imprinted on me. this was what i came up with.

then i combined the two! hehehe

i like trees. i line the curves and the lines they make. i like to take fotos of cool trees too, but they're always so much better in real life. i'll show u some one day.

george harrison in charcoal

john lennon in charcoal

this drawing was very sensitively created. its funny, sometimes when you're so distracted by hate or love or saddness, thats when some of your most successful, heartfelt, passionate drawings come out and this drawing has deep meaning and symbolic significance to me. one of my favourites.

john again. i tried to paint this picture. didn't really work. oh well.

this is a drawing i did for my boyfriend Alex for his birthday. it's basically just full of lots of little inside jokes that only me and him will understand!!! but from an outsider's perspective, i'd hope that you could appreciate the style it's in.

this was another drawing i did for alex, it was comic book style and its him and me as comic book heroes. he's thor and i'm cat woman, hehehe.

well thats it for now!!!
hope you enjoyed what i got to show you and feel free to leave comments and critisism and advice and whatever it is you've got to say!!! catcha later
